The aim of the project is to provide administrators of networks based on NDS/NetWare and MS Windows workstations with sufficiently robust and secure manner of changing a password, which will also be more user-friendly, reliable and unified compared to the standard manner dependant on various versions of MS Windows. Any password may be then changed simultaneously for an NDS user account and any local account on a workstation, on which the respective program is running. In respect of implementation of corporate security policy, the PwdMgr utility is structured to allow permanent conditional launching using a login script or Application Launcher, and to be available to users in case they want to change their passwords if they chose to. The most significant features of the program are stated below:

PwdMgr

  • The PwdMgr program is launched only if the respective user has not changed his/her password in NDS after the configured date. This feature is useful when it is necessary to set a new password after a new service has been introduced, if data leakage is suspected, if generic passwords have been set for technical reasons, etc. Parameter: checkdate
  • The PwdMgr program is launched only if a user password has not been changed during a preset period of time, for example over the last month, etc. Parameter: checkInterval
  • By entering the force parameter in a command line, the launch can be initiated regardless of whether or not the previous two conditions are met.
  • Upon each change of a password, the program checks whether the new password complies with preset parameters, i.e. whether or not it contains the required minimum number of characters, digits, and the minimum length.
  • Configuration can be set in general, as well as for individual user groups defined within NDS. Therefore, it is possible to set a minimum length of a password for any and all users to 6 characters, and to define a group of managers and employees working with sensitive data who will be obliged to set passwords with the minimum of 10 characters and to change their passwords more frequently.
  • With each configuration, help can be defined in English and Czech. We can add any other language upon request.
  • With each configuration, the use/appearance of Cancel and Help buttons can be allowed or restricted, and Help can be displayed when the program is started.
  • The PwdMgr program supports Windows 98, NT, 2k and XP, without a user noticing any difference in behavior.
  • If the PwdMgr program finds out that the original password cannot be used to login to a Windows workstation, it will ask the respective user interactively to enter a correct password.
  • We provide a fully functional demo with a single restriction – the password format of 4 characters, of which at least 2 must be digits. After you purchase the license, we will give you a key file allowing unrestricted use of the PwdMgr program.
